What it's like being a Level 3 Laboratory Technician

The successful applicant will support the Quality Analysis Supervisor with:

The testing, analysis and interpretation of findings for the UK Hub and other business areas’ internal and external complaints and enquiries including; compiling accurate and precise reports with recommendations, where required, for corrective action
Providing a specialised sampling and testing service for the UK Hub, specific management system requirements and any other business areas, assisting also other Imerys laboratory teams in the analysis and identification of contaminants found in screened samples.
The maintenance and organisation of the annual sample storage facility. To include; reference samples retained in respect of annual samples, ensuring they are stored appropriately and that any analysis required are carried out and reported in a timely manner
Advise Product Quality Team, QC testing team and/or Operational teams of test results anomalies
Provide a service to Operations, in accordance with ISO9001 procedures and schedules, for the inspection of local clay storage facilities including the detailed reporting of non conformities
Carry out quality checks on customer trials, new development products, externally sourced clays used by Imerys and report results
Maintain a safe working environment by following Imerys’ Environmental and Health and Safety procedures, and ensure a thorough understanding and execution of the safe working practices detailed in site specific risk and COSHH Assessments
Follow Imeys’ protocols related to 5S within all working areas and actively use the Take 5 process
Provide cover and support to the Sample Despatch Section
Assist and support the Quality Control laboratory by gaining competency and carrying out various Imerys approved test methods



The ability to show an interest in construction, science, or laboratory testing


Ideally English, Maths and Science GCSE A-C grade or equivalent (however all grades will be considered, so don’t be put off)

Over 21 months, you’ll devote 20% of your 37.5 hours of working time towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Imerys who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. The best part? You’ll be earning while you learn.

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.

Tiro and Imerys's goal is to transform you into a fully competent technician, ideally open to accepting a full-time, permanent position within the team after completing your qualification.
