Southdowns Environmental Consultants Ltd is looking for an apprentice technician to work from its offices at Warren Street in Camden to support an in-house Equipment and Data management team.
What it's like being a Level 3 Laboratory Technician

As an Environmental Consultant Apprentice, you’ll be training for your Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. Your role will include attending various high-profile construction and demolition sites for major infrastructure, retail, and commercial, industrial, and renewable projects. With training, you will be required to install and swap out monitors, and to troubleshoot issues (including technical, software & hardware) and to conduct maintenance and testing on noise, vibration, and air quality monitoring equipment.

Some office-based work will also be required as part of the role, to maintain records of the sites and equipment, conduct data management and report writing, in addition to servicing and maintenance of the equipment and equipment rooms.

You will work as part of our dedicated Equipment and Data Management Team supporting consultants and other senior members of staff.

Other key duties include:
• Conducting and assist with outdoor site work
• Downloading data from remote monitors, data processing and analysis
• Providing general support to the in-house team of consultants
• Installation, maintenance, servicing and decommissioning of monitoring equipment
• Maintenance of equipment record
• Assisting with office and administrative activities.



• The ability to show an interest in construction, science, or laboratory testing.


• Ideally English, Maths and Science GCSE A-C grade or equivalent (however lower grades will be considered, so don’t be put off)

Skills and characteristics

• Good IT skills - Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Excel.
• Good problem-solving and practical skills
• Ability to work outdoors throughout the year
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Enthusiastic, conscientious, reliable, and punctual
• Self-motivated, organised with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Interest in technology and how things work
• Desire to consistently improve and develop
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Over 21 months, you’ll devote 20% of your working time towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Southdowns Environmental Consultant, who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. The best part? You’ll be earning while you learn.

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.

Tiro and Southdowns Environmental Consultant’s goal is to transform you into a fully competent technician, ideally open to accepting a full-time, permanent position within the team.
